BAN vs WI (2nd Test) – Highlights In a thrilling Test match, BAN triumphed over the WI by 101 runs in the second Test
With a target of 274 runs, India got off to a strong start. Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner’s prowess allowed New Zealand to reenter the game. After losing five wickets, India was in a difficult situation. However, with the prowess of “Chasemaster” Virat Kohli, India finally emerged victorious.
On Sunday, October 22, India defeated New Zealand at Dharamsala by a margin of 4 wickets. For India, Virat Kohli scored 95 runs, which was the most. This batting star, however, regretfully left the field.
Kohli merely needed 5 runs to reach his century while India needed 5 runs to win. Kohli was ejected upon reaching the boundary. If he scores this century, Kohli might share the record for the highest century in ODI cricket. He could have touched Sachin Tendulkar.
In the game against Bangladesh, Kohli scored a century to clinch his 48th century. If he scores a century in this game, he will surpass Sachin’s previous mark of 49 hundred. This cricketer could not do that feat from just five runs away. He then regretfully left the field. Both the Indian cricketers and the audience lamented Kohli’s missed century.
New Zealand’s batting performance was poor after they lost the toss. Tom Latham’s squad started out horribly, losing 2 wickets for just 19 runs. From there, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell led the team. Together, they scored 159 runs.
Jadeja lost a catch of Ravindra early on. India had to pay the price well. Ravindra-Mitchell has made the Indian bowlers sweat. They also created chances of more than 300 runs. After scoring 75 runs off 87 balls, Ravindra’s departure turned the balance upside down.
Kuldeep Yadav swiftly sends Tom Latham back. Glenn Phillips and Mitchell attempted to bat in a pair, but Kuldeep broke the partnership for 38 runs. Mark Chapman gets taken down by Bumrah. None of the tailenders were able to score more than one run thanks to Mohammad Shami.
Mitchell fought on his own despite one side losing wickets. In the final over, he was also out. Mitchell was dismissed by Shami after 130 runs off 127 balls with 9 fours, and 5 sixes. Shami finished with five wickets as well. Finally, at 273 runs, New Zealand’s innings was over.
India retaliated by batting aggressively right away. In the powerplay, the two openers tallied 63 runs. At the conclusion of the powerplay, Lockie Ferguson returned Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in two consecutive overs. Kohli handled the pressure by forming a partnership of 52 runs with Shreyas Iyer, who fell for four.
Trent Boult brought Iyer back when India’s score was 128. However, Kohli and Lokesh Rahul’s 54-run partnership clinched India’s triumph. However, the threat was still present.
New Zealand returned to the match with two wickets in quick time. Rahul gets LBW on a great review by Santner. Suryakumar Yadav returns after being run out. In the end, India was under a bit of pressure as there was no more batter.
However, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja did not allow that pressure to affect them. They contributed 78 runs, helping the squad come close to winning. When Kohli came back, India needed 5 runs to win. Jadeja, however, led the team to victory with ease.
