Delhi Capitals defeated Gujarat Titans by 4 runs in another high-scoring IPL match in a breathtaking last over. In reply to Delhi’s 224 for 4, Gujarat needed 19 runs in the last over to win. And the last ball needs 5 runs.
But Delhi did not allow Gujarat to score those 5 runs. Delhi pacer Mukesh Khan did not allow the Gujarat batsman Rashid Khan, who was on strike, to score any runs in the last ball. Due to this Gujarat’s innings stopped at 220 for 8 wickets.
In the last over, Rashid Khan also raised chances of victory by hitting 2 consecutive fours off Mukesh Kumar of Delhi Capitals in the first two balls. But the Afghan all-rounder couldn’t in the end. His team lost by 4 runs. This is their fifth loss in 9 matches.
Defeated the toss and went into bat at their home ground Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, Delhi posted a decent score of 224 for 4 thanks to two brilliant innings by Axar Patel and skipper Rishabh Pant.
Patel played a great innings of 66 runs off 43 balls. He finished the innings with 5 boundaries and 4 sixes. And Pant was walking towards the century after his fifty. But he was unbeaten on 88 as the over ended. Pant hits 8 sixes with 5 boundaries.
Besides, Prithvi Shaw scored 11 runs off 7 balls, Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 23 runs off 14 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. Shai Hope scored 23 runs in six balls. In the end, Tristan Stubbs scored 26 runs from 7 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes and remained unbeaten.
In reply to Delhi’s 224 runs, Gujarat scored 220 runs for 8 wickets. After Wriddhiman Saha’s 39 runs, Sai Sudarshan and David Miller gave Gujarat a basement. Sudarshan scored 65 runs off 39 balls, Miller played an innings of 55 runs off 23 balls.
In the end, Rashid needed 11 more runs after conceding 4 off the first two balls of the 20th over. Gujarat could not take that 11 in the last four balls. Mukesh dot the third and fourth balls. Rashid kept Gujarat in the fight with a 6 off the fifth ball. But the next ball was not a boundary. Tristan Stubbs saves the boundary at long-off. Rashid remained unbeaten with 21 runs off 11 balls and had to leave the field with a defeat.
Rasikh Dar Salam took 3 wickets for Delhi. Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets. Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, and Akshar Patel got 1 wicket each.
