Cricket Highlights, November 30 – December 03: Bangladesh tour of West Indies (2nd Test) – Bangladesh vs West Indies
BAN vs WI (2nd Test) – Highlights In a thrilling Test match, BAN triumphed over the WI by 101 runs in the second Test
Before reaching the 60-run mark, Bangladesh lost 5 wickets while chasing a target, like a mountain. Only Mahmudullah Riyad was able to rescue the team from that. By preserving one end, he amassed a fantastic century. However, Bangladesh had already veered off the winning route by that point. Despite Mahmudullah’s valiant efforts, Shakib Al Hasan’s side fell short by a wide margin to South Africa.
At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24, South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 149 runs. The Tigers stopped at 233 runs while attempting to reach the South African-set mark of 383 runs.
The game did not, however, go very far. Bangladesh may have quickly gone all out. Riyad, however, managed to maintain one edge and spare Bangladesh the humiliating defeat. He hit 11 fours and 4 sixes in his 111 runs from 111 balls. This right-handed batsman contributed nearly half of Bangladesh’s total runs.
In the first six overs of pursuing the challenging total, Bangladesh scored 30 runs without losing a wicket. However, the Tigers lost their bearings after that. The seventh over, bowled by Marco Jansen, saw Bangladesh lose two wickets in a row. In the following over, Lizaad Williams returned Shakib Al Hasan to the dressing room.
In the twelfth over, Gerald Coetzee returned Mushfiqur Rahim after they lost three wickets in the powerplay. Liton Das was left through lbw by Kagiso Rabada in the 15th over at the team’s 58 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz returned after getting caught off Keshav Maharaj’s ball.
Together with Nasum Ahmed, Riyad scored 41 runs for the seventh wicket. Hasan Mahmud assisted Riyad after Nasum’s return, scoring 19 runs off of 19 balls. However, Riyad and Mustafizur Rahman created the most significant pairing. The majority of the 68 runs the two scored together came from Riyad’s bat. Bangladesh was out after Riyad returned with a century, and they were done in one over.
After losing the toss, Shariful Islam bowled Riza Hendricks in the sixth over. After Hendricks was out, Mehidy Miraz trapped Rassie van der Dussen in lbw in the next over. Playing Miraz’s off-spin delivery to fine leg, the right-handed batsman was out by LBW.
Despite losing two quick wickets, South Africa quickly returned to the match with the pair of Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram. After losing 2 wickets for 36 runs, Aiden Markram and de Kock made a partnership of 131 runs. Shakib brought back Markram who scored 60 runs by making a catch at long off.
By fracturing the couple, Bangladesh was put in greater danger. Klaasen batted like a whirlwind with the at five. Following the century, De Kock also accelerated the run rate. They played 87 balls in total, scoring 132 runs in a devastating partnership. De Kock hit 15 fours and 7 sixes in his 174-run innings off 140 balls. After playing a phenomenal innings of 90 runs off 49 balls with 8 sixes and 2 fours, Klaasen was dismissed.
De Kock eventually increased his run total to 174, opening the door for a double century. Klassen had a chance to go for a century as well. However, Hasan Mahmud returned them both. However, by that point, the African team had amassed a mountain of runs. South Africa’s innings ultimately came to a conclusion at 382 runs, with a cameo of Miller’s 34 runs from 15 balls.
