Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals (Match 34) – Highlights
Delhi Capitals (DC) could not make a good start to this year’s IPL. They have lost five matches in a row. Mustafizur Rahman played in two matches. He was out of the team in the last two matches as he could not perform well. David Warner’s team won both of these matches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced Delhi Capitals on Monday (April 24). In this match, they got the victory despite not being able to collect a hefty T20 total.
Batting first, DC was able to score 144 runs at the loss of 9 wickets courtesy of daring innings by Manish Pandey and Axar Patel. They came down to defend the target and restricted SRH to 137 runs with their great bowling efforts.
As a result, DC left the field with a great victory by 7 runs. Sunrisers lost three consecutive matches with this, and DC won two consecutive matches after losing the first 5 matches. However, due to the net run rate, SRH is in the 9th position and DC is in the last position in the points table.
DC won the toss and elected to bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. In this year’s IPL, David Warner won the toss and decided to bat first as the foremost captain in Hyderabad. They lost 2 wickets in Powerplay. After Philip Salt got caught behind in the first over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, DC made some progress with the pair of Warner and Mitchell Marsh.
Washington Sundar, who has been quite costly in the powerplay this season, Warner hit his first powerplay six of the season in the fourth over off Sundar. Earlier, Marsh hit 4 fours in 1 over off Marco Jansen. However, DC was knocked out of the match in one over bowled by Sundar. Marsh had already fallen victim to T Natarajan.
Then David Warner (21), Sarfaraz Khan (10), and Aman Hakim Khan (4) were bowled between 5 balls off Sundar. It is to be noted that so far Sundar was wicketless in this IPL. Losing 5 wickets for 62 runs, DC eventually scored 144 runs thanks to the contributions of Manish Pandey and Axar Patel. The duo put on 69 runs off 59 balls for the sixth wicket. Both played an innings of 34 runs.
After Axar’s return, DC lost 3 more wickets to add 13 runs off the last 13 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 2 wickets conceding only 11 runs in 4 overs. Apart from this, Washington Sundar scalped 3 wickets and T Natarajan took 1 wicket.
Mayank Agarwal came to open for Sunrisers with Harry Brook to chase the runs. He was playing shots from one side, while Brook was failing to play shots on the other. Brook was bowled in the last over of the Powerplay, scoring only 7 runs off 14 balls while trying to play a scoop off Anrich Nortje. This season, the English batsman could not match himself if the century made by him is countermanded. Sunrisers collected 36 runs off 36 balls in the powerplay.
In the middle overs, the Sunrisers could not increase the pace of scoring, they lost wickets on the contrary. The pair of Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi scored 38 runs off 39 balls. Tripathi, who scored 15 runs off 21 balls, returned to the pavilion after falling victim to Axar, and Ishant Sharma bowled Agarwal, who scored 49 off 39 balls.
Sunrisers quickly lost 2 more wickets and felt two-pronged pressure due to the loss of two set batsmen and the required run rate increment. Abhishek Sharma (5) and captain Aiden Markram (3) got back then. Sunrisers needed 51 runs in the last 4 overs.
Heinrich Klaasen and Sundar were taking the team to victory. Nortje and Mukesh Kumar gave away 28 runs in the first 2 overs. However, Klaasen was caught at the deep point on the 3rd ball of Nortje’s next over. Sundar kept Sunrisers in the fight with a four off the fifth ball of Nortje. 13 runs were required in the last over.
Capitals had to bring an extra man into the circle in the last over bowled by Mukesh as he could not finish the over at the specified time. Sundar could not take advantage of that; they could get only 3 runs in the first 3 balls. Mukesh did not give more than two singles in the next 2 balls, in the last ball he gave a dot. And with that, DC sealed the dramatic victory.
