South Africa vs West Indies (1st T20I) – Highlights

After completing the Test and ODI series, South Africa and West Indies met in the 1st match of the three-match T20 series at Supersport Park, Centurion yesterday. Both teams entered this match with an ODI series draw. Batting first in this rain-soaked match, South Africa set a good target in the scheduled 11 overs (due to rain).

Later, West Indies reached the port of victory with 3 balls in hand to chase that target. Along with that, they also take a step towards winning the series. On the other hand, Rovman Powell performed the duties of the captain very well and won the man of the match title with his excellent batting.

After winning the toss, the West Indies captain chose to bowl first and invited South Africa to bat. Batting first, the South African openers could not take much advantage. They lost 2 wickets at 12 runs. Quinton de Kock was the first to leave the field after a golden duck. Shortly after that Rilee Rossouw returned to the dressing room with only 10 runs in 7 balls with the help of 2 fours.

Then Reeza Hendricks and Captain Aiden Markram were on the field for some time, but Aiden Markram left the field after the team reached 40 runs. He scored 14 runs off 9 balls with 3 fours. After the Captain left the field, wickets started falling at regular intervals.

Reeza Hendricks left for the dressing room in the 6th over. He scored 21 runs off 12 balls with 2 sixes before getting out. Heinrich Klaasen scored only 1 run off 2 balls. Wayne Parnell scored 4 runs off 6 balls.

On the 4th ball of the 11th over, David Miller, who scored the most runs for them, left the field. South Africa put up a respectable total with the help of his batting. He left the field after playing 22 balls with 48 runs. His innings of 48 runs had 4 fours and 3 sixes. Bjorn Fortuin scored 4 runs off 2 balls.

Besides, Sisanda Magala remained unbeaten on 18 runs from 5 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 1 four. In the end, South Africa scored 131 runs after losing 8 wickets with 11 extra runs.

Sheldon Cottrell and Odean Smith took 2 wickets each for West Indies. Besides, Akeal Hossain, Romario Shepherd, and Alzarri Joseph took 1 wicket each.

Batting with a target of 132 runs, West Indies left the field with a 3-wicket victory. Captain Rovman Powell scored the most runs for them. He was unbeaten after playing the innings of 43 runs off 18 balls with the help of 1 four and 5 sixes. 

Johnson Charles scored 28 runs off 14 balls with the help of 1 four and 3 sixes. Brandon King played great innings of 23 runs off 8 balls. He also hit 2 fours and 2 sixes. Nicholas Pooran scored 16 runs off 7 balls with the help of 3 fours. Besides, no one else could play. Kyle Myers scored 6 runs, Romario Shepherd scored 3 runs, Odean Smith scored 5 runs, and Roston Chase scored 4 runs.

In the end, they lost 7 wickets with 4 extra runs and won. Sisanda Magala took 3 wickets for 21 runs in 2 overs for South Africa. Besides, Anrich Nortje, Bjorn Fortuin, and Tabraiz Shamsi took 1 wicket each.
