Travis Head (24-ball 62) and Abhishek Sharma (23-ball 63) started the game for Hyderabad. And the two Protea batsmen Aiden Markram (42 from 28 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (80 from 34 balls) ended up killing the Mumbai bowlers.
Rohit Sharma (26 from 12 balls) and Ishan Kishan (34 from 13 balls) started the innings to answer the record runs. Tilak Verma scored 64 off 34 balls after playing a stormy innings. Besides, Naman Dhir (14 balls 30), Hardik Pandya (20 balls 24), and Tim David (22 balls 42) fought back but couldn’t save the match.
The total runs in this match were 523. Which is the highest run record in the 16-year history of IPL. Earlier in 2010, the record was 469 in the match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. Not only IPL, but T20 cricket has not recorded so many runs before. The highest run record in T20 cricket is 517. This run in the match between West Indies and South Africa at Centurion in 2023 is the highest ever in T20 International.
In this match, the two teams also recorded separate runs. Hyderabad recorded the highest run in the history of IPL. The previous record for highest runs was Royal Challengers Bangalore, 263 runs in 2013. On the other hand, Mumbai scored the highest number of runs in the history of IPL when they came out to bat in the second innings. The previous record for the highest run in the second innings was held by Rajasthan Royals, 226 in 2020.
The record for most sixes in the history of IPL has been made in this match. There were 38 sixes in the entire match. The previous record was set in a 2018 match between Chennai and Royal Challengers Bangalore with 33 sixes. Hyderabad and Mumbai hit the IPL record by hitting boundaries (fours and sixes) on this day. 69 total boundaries in two innings. Earlier in 2010, Chennai and Rajasthan hit the same boundary.
