Daryl Mitchell gave Gaikwad great support for the second wicket. Their 107-run partnership gave Chennai the basis for a big collection. Mitchell was dismissed for 52 off 32 balls by Jaydev Unadkat. But Gaikwad and Shivam Dube did not let the run rate slow down.
Gaikwad and Dube added 64 runs off 35 balls for the third wicket. Gaikwad left the field with the regret of 3 runs. The right-handed batsman scored 98 runs with 10 fours and 3 sixes before being dismissed by Natarajan in the 20th over.
