South Africa vs West Indies (1st Test) – Highlights

The 2-match Test series between South Africa and West Indies begins at Centurion on Tuesday (February 28). Batting first in that Test, Proteas could not cross 350. West Indies’ 1st innings were worse than that, as they could not even scratch the 220 mark.

 

In the 2nd innings, South Africa was bowled out for 116 runs due to the onslaught of bowlers. The same thing happened with the West Indies as the pitch helped the bowlers. After that, West Indies had to leave the field with a massive loss of 87 runs due to an unstoppable fall of wickets. On the other hand, Aiden Markram won the man of the match title by batting well in both innings.

 

The host South Africa was in a good position on the first day after winning the toss and batting. But they could not increase the innings on the second day. They were all out for 342 runs. The hosts scored 314 runs for 8 wickets on the first day.

 

After the pair of 141 runs by the two openers, everyone thought that the innings of the Proteas is going to be very big. But basically, no one could stand in front of the West Indies bowlers except the two openers.

Opener Dean Elgar was dismissed for 71 runs. He scored this run in 11 boundaries after playing 118 balls. Another opener Aiden Markram was dismissed for 115 runs. He scored this run with the help of 18 boundaries after playing 174 balls. Then Tony De Georgi was out for 28 runs. Captain Temba Bavuma could not score any runs.

 

Keegan Petersen was out for 14 and Heinrich Klaasen was out for 20 runs. Marco Jansen remained unbeaten on 23 runs. In the end, Coetzee scored 17 runs, and Anrich Nortje scored 14 runs.

 

Alzarri Joseph took 5 wickets for West Indies. Kemar Roach, Kyle Myers, Shannon Gabriel, and Jason Holder took 1 wicket each.

West Indies scored 212 runs in response and South Africa got a lead of 130 runs. Raymon Reifer scored the most runs for them. He scored 62 runs from 143 balls with the help of 7 fours.

 

The host Proteas were bowled out for just 116 runs in the second innings. Even in the 2nd innings, no one except Aiden Markram can stand in front of the bowling attack of South Africa. He scored 47 runs off 58 balls with the help of 7 fours.

 

Pacer Kemar Roach took 5 wickets alone. Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder took 2 wickets each. Shannon Gabriel took 1 wicket each.

First 130 and next 116 runs, in total South Africa’s lead, stands at 246 runs. 247 runs were required to win. Skipper Craig Brathwaite was dismissed for no runs. Tagenarine Chanderpaul scored 10 runs. Raymon Reifer scored 8 runs. Roston Chase and Kyle Myers scored no runs.

 

Joshua de Silva scored 17, and Jason Holder scored 18. Alzarri Joseph scored 4 runs. Kemar Roach scored 12 runs. West Indies’ innings stopped at 159 runs when Jermaine Blackwood was dismissed for 79 runs as the last wicket.

For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada bowled 15 overs and took 6 wickets alone. Marco Jansen took 2 wickets. Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee took 1 wicket each.
