Cricket Highlights, 28 Mar: Bangladesh vs Ireland (1st T20I)

Bangladesh vs Ireland (1st T20I)

With the total that Bangladesh made (207 in 19.2 overs before play was stopped by rain), the match might have been much more difficult for the Irish if the full 20 overs had been played. But as the target stood at 104 runs in 8 overs, the visitors started to play aggressively from the beginning. As a result, the match got exciting.

Although in the end, Bangladesh won the match by holding their nerve. Shakib Al Hasan’s team defeated Ireland by 22 runs in the first T20I of the series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. With this victory, the hosts have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Going down to defend the target, Nasum Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman gave away 32 runs in the first two overs to the Ireland batters. Bangladesh was under great pressure as a result of that.

In the third over, captain Shakib Al Hasan gave the ball to Hasan Mahmud. The 23-year-old pacer has once again shown how mature his cricket brain is now.

With slowers and more varieties in the first three balls, Irish batsman Ross Adair (13) was bowled by him. He bowled him on the fourth ball after three consecutive dots. The Irish lost their first wicket for 32 runs. Hasan Mahmud conceded 5 runs in that over.

Then Taskin took 3 wickets in the fourth over and brought Bangladesh back into the match. The right-arm pacer bowled two batters including skipper Paul Stirling and made another one be caught.

In the fifth over, Ireland again created excitement by smashing Hasan Mahmud for 16 runs with 3 boundaries. But Shakib bowled brilliantly in the sixth over. The Tiger skipper spent only 5 runs in the over with four dots.

After that, the Irish could not turn around in the run chase. They had to stop at 81 runs for 5 wickets. Playing the 50th match of his career, Taskin snapped up the maximum number of 4 wickets with 16 runs in 2 overs.

Earlier, after Bangladesh scored 207 runs for 5 wickets in 19.2 overs, the game was stopped due to rain then. This is the Tigers’ third-highest team collection in T20Is.

Ireland could not take the advantage of winning the toss and deciding to field first. Rather, on the contrary, both Bangladeshi openers were dominating the Irish bowlers. The two openers put up a devastating partnership of 91 runs in 7.1 overs. Litton Das played an innings of 47 runs off just 23 balls.

However, Litton could not complete his half-century after getting off to a flying start. He got out staying 3 runs away. Litton was caught by Paul Stirling on the first ball of the eighth over of the innings by Craig Young. He hit 3 sixes with 4 boundaries.

After a flying start by Litton and Rony Talukdar, Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to keep the consistency going. He was trying to be set on the wicket but got undone after scoring 14 runs off 13 balls. He fell into the trap of stamping on Harry Tector’s ball. The hosts lost the second wicket for the team’s 118 runs.

But even with Litton and Shanto getting out, Rony Talukdar’s devastating batting continued. He completed his half-century in just 24 balls. However, in the end, this right-handed batsman got out after scoring 67 runs off 38 balls. He smashed 7 fours along with 3 sixes in his blistering innings.

Shamim Hossain Patwari was sent to bat at number four. He got out hitting 2 fours and 1 six, he made 30 runs off 20 balls. Towhid Hridoy scored 13 runs off 8 balls. After Shakib Al Hasan scored 20 runs from 13 balls and Mehidy Hasan Miraz got 4 runs from 1 ball, the rain stopped the match after this.

However, Rony Talukdar was selected as the player of the match after playing an outstanding innings. Tomorrow in the 2nd match of the series these, two teams will meet at the same venue at the same time.
