Bangladesh vs England (2nd ODI) – Highlights
England and Bangladesh met in the 2nd match of the 3-match ODI series yesterday (March 3). In that important match, batting first England set a huge target in the 50 overs. In pursuit of that goal, Bangladesh collapsed before the end of the allotted overs.
With that, Bangladesh’s hopes of winning the series ended. On the other hand, the English took the series by winning the 2nd match. Apart from this, Jason Roy won the man of the match due to his excellent batting.
Luck helped Bangladesh in the second ODI of the series in Mirpur. Tiger captain Tamim Iqbal won the toss and decided to field. Tamim started the attack by sending the English to bat with spin from both ends. However, Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam could not put England in danger in the first four overs.
In the seventh over, Bangladesh got successful with the bowling of Taskin Ahmed. Phil Salt (7) was caught out by Taskin. Then Jason Roy made a 54-ball, 58-run partnership with David Malan. But it didn’t last long as Malan was trapped in LBW by Miraz, and returned for 11 runs.
After that, Taijul Islam quickly showed James Vince (5) the way to the dressing room. Bangladesh did not allow three of the four top-order batsmen to extend their innings. But opener Jason Roy stood up. England’s right-handed batsman took the 12th century of his ODI career with great batting. Roy made a 93-ball 109-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Jos Buttler.
In the end, he left the field by being trapped in lbw. The English opener hit 18 boundaries and a six in the innings of 132 runs off 124 balls. Then Taskin dismissed Will Jacks (1) just after Roy returned.
Bangladesh returned to the fight after picking up 5 wickets of England for 208 runs. But Jos Buttler took the team a long way from there. Buttler was finally stopped by Mehidy Hasan. Butler returned to the dressing room after scoring 76 runs in 64 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
After that, with Moeen Ali’s 35-ball 42 and Sam Curran’s 19-ball 33 runs, the English made a mountain of 326 runs for 7 wickets.
All the Bangladeshi bowlers were expensive. Taskin Ahmed took 3 wickets with 66 runs. Mehidy Miraj took two wickets for 73 runs. Besides, Shakib and Taijul took 1 wicket each.
The target was 327 runs. Bangladesh needed a great start. But it was the opposite happened. In the first over, Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto took the path to the dressing room. Everyone thought that Experienced Mushfiqur Rahim will take the lead, but he gave the third wicket to Sam with 4 from 5 balls.
Three top-order batsmen took their way to the dressing room one by one. Shakib and Tamim then took the lead at the moment of extreme danger for the team. Their fighting partnership of 79 runs off 111 balls was broken when Tamim got out. Tamim was the victim of Moeen’s bowling, he made 35 off 65 balls with 4 boundaries.
After Tamim Iqbal, Shakib also got out for fifty. Shakib was the victim of Adil Rashid after scoring 58 runs off 9 balls. Bangladesh lost 5 wickets for 122 runs. The Tigers’ dream of saving the series was over.
Afif Hossain and Mahmudullah Riyad could not increase the innings even though they were set on a mission to reduce the loss gap. Afif 23 and Mahmudullah 32 were the victims of Adil Rashid. Rashid’s fourth wicket was Mehidy Hasan Miraz (7). In the end, Bangladesh’s innings stopped at 194 runs in 44.4 overs.
