Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) easily beat Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL on Monday (April 29). After winning the toss at Eden Gardens, Delhi Capitals could not take advantage of batting first. Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana’s bowling stopped Delhi Capitals’ innings at 153 for 9 wickets. Chasing the target, KKR won easily by 7 wickets with 21 balls in hand.
No fifty in DC’s innings. The top order did not last long on the wicket. Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm wrist spinner at number nine, scored a maximum of 35 off 26 balls. When DC was reeling at the loss of 7 wickets for 101 runs in 13.3 overs, Kuldeep came down to finish the innings with 5 fours and 1 six.
The second highest 27 runs came from captain Rishabh Pant’s bat. Earlier, DC lost 7 wickets to score 100 runs in 13 overs. In the second, third, and fourth overs of the innings, the team lost Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Shai Hope respectively, DC could not open their hands to bat.
Varun Chakaravarthy was the brightest bowler for KKR. This spinner bowled 4 overs and took 3 wickets for 16 runs. As a result, he was also selected as the player of the match. Besides, Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana took two wickets each, and Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narine picked up one wicket each.
153 runs are not a difficult target in the current IPL. And the Knight Riders did not have to get much speed to get this run. In the beginning, English batsman Philip Salt picked up 79 runs in 6.1 overs in the opening pair with Sunil Narine. Narine was dismissed for 15 off 10 balls but Salt scored fifty. The opener scored 68 runs off 33 balls with 7 boundaries and 5 sixes.
Salt returned to the pavilion after being bowled by Axar Patel for the team’s 96 runs. Then Rinku Singh went back to the dressing room scoring 11 runs off 11 balls. However, the unbeaten partnership of 57 runs by Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer in the fourth wicket reached the port of victory for Kolkata Knight Riders. Shreyas was unbeaten on 33 runs off 23 balls. And Venkatesh left the field as the winner after scoring 26 runs off 23 balls.
Axar Patel took two and Lizaad Williams took one wicket for DC.
Kolkata Knight Riders strengthened their position in the points table by defeating DC by 7 wickets in this match. With 12 points from 9 matches, they are now in second place in the standings. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals are now 6th in the points table with 10 points from 11 matches.
