Gujarat Titans got off to a great start chasing a modest target. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad returned to the match in the middle over. The team also put up a tight bowling competition. But David Miller and Sai Sudarshan helped to let Pat Cummins’ side down. With the pair of these two batsmen, Gujarat easily crossed the target.
Gujarat Titans beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets in Ahmedabad on Sunday (March 31). Hyderabad scored 162 runs at the end of 20 overs after batting at the beginning. In response, Shubman Gill’s Gujarat reached the target with 5 balls in hand.
Chasing a modest target, Gujarat’s openers left Hyderabad behind early on. The two openers made a pair of 36 runs. Shahbaz Ahmed sent back Wriddhiman Saha but Shubman Gill was running at his pace at the other end. Sudarshan accompanied him for the second wicket.
Sudarshan-Gill’s 38-run partnership was broken by Mayank Markand’s spin. Gill was dismissed for 36 off 28 balls. After the departure of the captain, Gujarat’s run rate decreased a little. Hyderabad was trying to get back into the fight with tight bowling. But an over from Mayank Markande knocked them far out of contention. The young spinner gave 24 runs in the 15th over. And that’s where the fight ends.
Cummins sent back Sudarshan in the next over but Gujarat narrowly won. Just one run was needed in the last over. The victory was assured. David Miller of Killer Miller fame was at the wicket. Miller sent the ball off Jaydev Unadkot outside the boundary. It was a six. 163 runs were needed for the victory. The two-time finalists Gujarat Titans left the field after scoring 168 runs, winning the match by 7 wickets. Experienced Miller finished the match with 44 runs off 27 balls with 2 sixes and 4 fours. Vijay Shankar scored 14 runs off 11 balls.
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad, who made a record collection in the last match, could not make much use of batting. Many of the team, lined with devastating batters, got off to a good start. But no one could use it. Abdul Samad scored 29 runs off 14 balls. This was the individual highest collection by a Hyderabad batsman. Abhishek Sharma scored 29 runs equal to Samad. 24 runs off 13 balls from the bat of South African devastating batsman Heinrich Klaasen.
Mohit Sharma took a maximum of 3 wickets for Gujarat. Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed and Umesh Yadav got one wicket each.
