Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Match 47) – Highlights
Sunrisers Hyderabad took on Kolkata Knight Riders at home in the 47th match of the IPL on Thursday (May 4). Batting first in that match, Kolkata Knight Riders set a moderate target in the allotted 20 overs. But Sunrisers Hyderabad could not reach the target as the allotted overs ended. As a result, they left the field with a loss of 5 runs. Along with that, Varun Chakaravarthy won the man of the match title by bowling well.
On this day, no Kolkata batsmen could reach the fifty-run mark. However, Kolkata Knight Riders have the target to contend with. On the strength of the bats of the captain Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh, they scored 171 runs for 9 wickets. In other words, Sunrisers Hyderabad, the home team, needed to score 172 to win.
Kolkata was initially stunned after choosing to bat in the opposition’s field after winning the toss. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (0 runs) and Venkatesh Iyer (7 runs) were brought to the dressing room by Marco Jansen in the second over of the innings. Then, Jason Roy did not contribute much either (20 off 19 balls). That’s why Kolkata suffered a 3-wicket loss at the team’s 35 runs.
Captain Nitish then controlled the match. He made an impactful innings. After batting 42 runs off 31 balls with three fours and three sixes, he was out. Then Andre Russell started a mini storm (24 off 15 balls, 1 four, 2 sixes). However, his Caribbean teammate struggled to succeed. Sunil Narine (1) had another unsuccessful inning while batting.
But Rinku Singh had the upper hand and was fixed at the other edge. Then, Kolkata used Anukul Roy as a key player because they didn’t have any batters to support him. In the final over of the inning, Rinku (46 off 35 balls) was declared out. However, Anukul did not let down the team. This batter has 13 runs off of 7 balls and was still undefeated. Kolkata eventually declared the innings at 171 runs for 9 wickets.
The capital may get some expansion. But T Natarajan got 2 wickets for 3 runs in the final over. Besides, two wickets were taken by Marco Jansen. Markram, Mayank Markande, Bhuvneshwar, and Kartik Tyagi each of them took one wicket.
Hyderabad was under strain after losing 4 wickets in the space of 54 runs while chasing 172 runs. Harry Brook was out for 0 runs while Rahul Tripathi scored 20 from 9 balls, Mayank Agarwal scored 18 from 11 balls, Abhishek Sharma scored 9 from 10 balls, and so on. These four left the field, and KKR took over control of the game. However, a 70-run partnership between Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen for the fifth wicket turned the match back in their favor.
Klaasen was out, but Markram retained one end for the team’s 124 runs. Klaasen was out after 20 balls for 36 runs with 1 four and 3 sixes. Then, Markram was ejected after the team’s 145 runs. He scored 41 runs off 40 balls, hitting four fours. After that, for the victory, Hyderabad only needed 27 runs from 19 balls when he was out.
However, the last-minute batters were unable to take it. Only 9 runs were needed, particularly in the final over, but Varun Chakaravarthy’s 6 balls didn’t let Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Markande take more than 3 runs. They must therefore depart the field with a loss.
