B-Love Kandy vs Jaffna Kings (Match 9) – Highlights

B-Love Kandy and Jaffna Kings faced each other in the 9th match of Lanka Premier League 2023. Batting first in that match, Jaffna Kings set a low score target in the allotted 20 overs. But the players of B-Love Candy reached the target before the scheduled 20 overs were over. They departed the field with a commanding 8-wicket victory. On the other hand, Wanindu Hasaranga won the man of the match title for B-Love Kandy with great batting.

The Jaffna Kings of Towhid Hridoy won to kick off the Sri Lanka Premier League (LPL). The following game they suffered a crushing defeat to Dambulla Aura. Then Shakib Al Hasan’s Galle Titans were defeated by them in the third game. On Saturday, August 5, they falter once more when they faced B-Love Candy.

After winning the toss, B-Love Kandy’s skipper Wanindu Hasaranga chose to bowl first and invited Jaffna Kings to bat. Jaffna Kings batted first on this particular day with a defeated start, scoring 117 runs for 9 wickets. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the Jaffna team’s opener, was out for 0 runs at the Pallekele stadium. Hridoy then arrived at the crease. After Hridoy arrived, Asalanka (5 for 6) left the field for the team’s 7 runs. After that, Hridoy and David Miller combined for 27 runs. By firing Hridoy, Wanindu Hasaranga ended their partnership. Hridoy hit three fours in his 19-run, 22-ball innings. The day before, this batsman scored 44 runs off just 23 balls.

Miller and Priyamal Perera afterward offered Jaffna hope. They were however outscored by 14 runs. With the help of three fours, Miller scored 21 runs off 22 balls, and Perera scored 22 runs off 22 balls with the help of a four and a six. Dunith Wellalage then scored 38 runs off 27 balls, but Jaffna’s score failed to develop into a fighting advantage. For them, he scored the most runs. During his unbeaten run, he struck six fours and one six.

Apart from this, Captain Thisara Perera scored 2 runs. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Nuan Thushara, and Maheesh Thikshana were all out for nil. Nandre Burger was unbeaten on 6 runs. In the end, they set a target of 118 runs with 4 runs extra.

Hasaranga conquered Jaffna alone. He took 3 wickets with 9 runs. On the other hand, Nuwan Pradeep took 3 wickets for 36 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Angelo Mathews took 2 wickets and Isuru Udana took 1 wicket.

Kandy completed the task in just 13 overs losing 2 wickets in response to 118 runs. While chasing the target, for the team’s 31 runs, Kandy lost the opening wicket. Chandimal was dismissed at this point off Nandre Burger’s ball, he hit three fours for 22 runs off 16 balls. Then, Hasaranga and Fakhar Zaman both scored 71 run partnership. At 102 runs, though, Fakhar Zaman was forced to exit the game. Before being bowled out, Fakhar Zaman made 42 off 39 balls while hitting two fours and two sixes. After that, Hasaranga sealed the match and scored 52 runs to remain unbeaten. In addition, he hit 3 sixes and 5 fours in 22 balls.

Maheesh Thikshana and Nandre Burger took 1 wicket each for Jaffna Kings. Despite this loss, Jaffna is at the top of the table with 4 points.
