Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians (Match 49) – Highlights

Chennai Super Kings took on Mumbai Indians at home in the 49th match of the IPL on Saturday (May 6). Batting first in that match, Mumbai Indians set a low-scoring target in the allotted 20 overs. Chasing the target, Chennai Super Kings reached the target before the scheduled over ended. As a result, they left the field with a victory of 6 wickets. Along with that, Mathisha Pathirana took the title of Man of the Match by doing great bowling.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the two most successful teams in IPL history. Nine of the 15 seasons played thus far in the competition have been won by these two teams. The face-to-face duel between the two teams has more intrigue because they are far ahead of others in success. But in this match, nothing was observed. The ‘IPL Classico’ saw Mumbai lose to Chennai, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. They suffered a 6-wicket loss to Chennai.

Mumbai was defenseless against the superb bowling of Mathisha Pathirana and Deepak Chahar while batting first after losing the toss and they lost 8 wickets for just 139 runs. In the previous four innings, Rohit Sharma scored 3, 2, 0, and 0. In this game, he also changed from his normal opening position against Chennai. This is the first time since the 2018 IPL season that Rohit did not participate in the opening. He did not, however, score any runs while at bat. Just like him, Ishan Kishan-Cameron Green also failed.

Then, Mumbai attempted to turn things around with the bats of Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wahdhera after losing three wickets in the opening three overs. Surya, however, was unable to extend his innings. Before being dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja, this batsman amassed 26 runs. However, the visitors had to wait until the 16th over to witness their first six since the Mumbai batsmen were having so much trouble playing fluid cricket.

The youthful left-handed batsman Wahdhera, on the other hand, has kept one side in check while scoring his first fifty in the IPL. In essence, Rohit’s side scored 139 runs off his 64-run innings, which included 8 fours and 1 six off 51 balls. Besides, Tristan Stubbs made 20 runs off 21 balls. The remaining people departed the area with one or two runs.

For Chennai, Pathirana grabbed 3 wickets and scored 15 runs in 4 overs. This fast bowler, who entered the game in the 13th over of the innings, bowled 4 overs without giving up a single boundary. In addition, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar both got two wickets, and Tushar Deshpande took one.

In revenge, Chennai jumped out to a quick start thanks to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bat. Ruturaj scored 30 runs off 16 balls, including 4 boundaries and 2 sixes. Devon Conway, another opener, moved a little more slowly. Out of 42 balls, he made 44 runs. Also, he hit four fours.

The tiny objective, though, made it easy for Chennai to prevail. Ambati Rayudu scored 12 runs off 11 balls with 1 six, and Ajinkya Rahane scored 21 runs off 17 balls with 1 four and 1 six. Additionally, Shivam Dube departed the field after scoring undefeated innings of 26 runs off 18 balls with the help of 3 sixes, which helped to win the match.

With this victory, Chennai moves up to second position with 13 points after 11 games, while Mumbai drops to sixth with 10 points after one fewer game.
