Yesterday, Pakistan and New Zealand faced off in the final match of the five-match ODI series at the Pakistan National Stadium, Karachi. Batting first in that match, New Zealand set a good target to avoid a series of whitewash. After chasing that target, Pakistan collapsed before the end of the scheduled 50 overs. As a result, Pakistan lost for the first time in this series. Along with this, Henry Shipley won the Man of the Match title and Fakhar Zaman won the Man of the Series award for New Zealand.

Losing the opening four games in a five-match series. The series loss against Pakistan for New Zealand is already completed. While Babar Azam’s last game was merely a formality, New Zealand was determined to avoid the embarrassment of whitewashing. That mission was currently accomplished by Kiwis. They avoided the embarrassment of a loss by defeating Pakistan by 47 runs in the most recent game.

In that match, New Zealand was bowled out after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. They scored 299 runs in 49.3 overs. Pakistan’s response saw them dismissed for 252 runs in 46.1 overs. With a victory for New Zealand in the last match, the outcome was 4-1 in the series.

New Zealand’s top order displayed a lot of tenacity when batting first. With the help of Will Young, Tom Blundell, Henry Nicholls, Tom Latham, and Mark Chapman, New Zealand was able to score 299 runs.

Will Young, the opener, managed a maximum of 87 runs off 91 balls. He had 8 boundaries and 2 sixes. In 22 balls, Tom Blundell scored 15 runs. In 30 balls, Henry Nicholls scored 23 runs. Tom Latham, the captain, was out after making 59 runs off 58 balls. In 33 balls, Mark Chapman scored 43 runs. Rachin Ravindra scored 28 off 20 balls, and Cole McConchie scored 26 off 25.

Usama Mir and Shadab Khan each grabbed two wickets, while Shaheen Shah Afridi took three for Pakistan with 46 runs. Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf both took one wicket.

As soon as New Zealand scored 299 runs, Pakistan was in danger of having to respond. Three wickets were lost for 52 runs. Babar Azam, who made a century in the last game, left with one run after Shan Masood was dismissed for 7 runs. Mohammad Rizwan, who was assigned to bat at position four, left the field after 15 balls and 9 runs were scored.

After the team had amassed 66 runs, opener Fakhar Zaman was also ejected. Fakhar performed admirably in this series. He scored 33 runs in 64 balls. However, the remarkable partnership for the fifth wicket was created by Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed. Together, these two batted for 97 runs.

The pair, who had hopes of winning the match, were, however, broken by Henry Shipley’s ball. With 57 runs off 57 balls, Agha Salman replied with a catch in Tom Latham’s hands off Shipley. Then, Iftikhar Ahmed did not have enjoyable company from the successive hitters.  Shadab Khan scored 14 runs off 14 balls and Usama Mir scored 20 off 15.

However, depending on the bowling of the bowlers, the Kiwis bowled out Pakistan for only 252 runs. With 34 runs, Henry Shipley captured 3 wickets. With 3 wickets, Rachin Ravindra spent 65 runs. Besides, Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry, and Adam Milne each claimed one wicket.
