Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings met in match 13 of Lanka Premier League 2023. Batting first in that match, Colombo Strikers scored a moderate target in the allotted 20 overs. But the players of Jaffna Kings reached the target before the scheduled 20 overs were over. As a result, they left the field with a win of 6 wickets. On the other hand, Dunith Wellalage won the Man of the Match award for Jaffna Kings by bowling brilliantly.

After winning the toss, Colombo Strikers captain Babar Azam chose to bat first and invited Jaffna Kings to bowl. Batting first, Colombo Strikers’ openers made a good start. Pathum Nishanka and Babar Azam scored 57 runs from 42 balls in the opening pair. But Dunith Wellalage did not allow them to make this innings bigger. Trapped by LBW, Pathum Nishanka was sent to the dressing room. However, he scored the most runs for them. He scored 36 runs off 25 balls with the help of 7 fours. Babar Azam left the field after 1.1 overs. This astounding batter, who scored a century in the previous match, scored 24 runs off 21 balls in this match with the help of 2 fours.

Then Nuwanidu Fernando and Iftikhar Ahmed left the field with a gap of 5 runs. Both scored 2 runs. Wicketkeeper Lahiru Udara scored 29 runs off 25 balls with the help of 2 fours and 1 six. Then Mohammad Nawaz and Chamika Karunaratne combined to take the team’s total to 139 runs. But then Mohammad Nawaz left the field. He scored 27 runs off 20 balls with 3 fours and 1 six before getting out. Besides, Chamika Karunaratne was unbeaten on 21 runs off 18 balls. In the end, they scored 146 runs after losing 8 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.

Dilshan Madushanka and Dunith Wellalage took 2 wickets each for Jaffna Kings. Besides, Maheesh Theekshana, Nuwan Thushara, and Shoaib Malik took 1 wicket each. 

At Pallekele Stadium, Jaffna scored 58 runs in the opening pair while chasing runs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who had fallen victim to Mathisha Pathirana, was at this point making his way back to the pavilion. Charith Asalanka, on the other hand, quit the game after 97 runs after being knocked for the team and out in one down. With the help of three fours and three sixes, Gurbaz scored 39 runs off 21 balls, while Asalanka only managed 12 runs off 15 balls.

Nasim Shah bowled Captain Thisara Perera for a personal score of 17. Jaffna was then edging closer to triumph. With 128 runs for the team, Nishan Maduska left the field. With the help of three fours and three sixes, he scored 46 runs off 32 balls. When opener Nishan Maduska gets dismissed, Hridoy must enter the field. Hridoy smashed four runs in the following two balls after taking a strike and a single on the first ball. Within the over, Pathirana gave 12 runs.

On the first ball of the following over, Hridoy gave Jaffna four runs off the leg bye. Struck the third ball toward backward point for a four after dotting the second ball. In 9 balls, Hridoy scored 14 runs. With his innings, Jaffna Kings reached the target with 5.3 overs remaining and 21 runs extra while losing 4 wickets.

Nasim Shah took 2 wickets for Colombo Strikers. Besides, Mathisha Pathirana and Lakshan Sandakan took 1 wicket each.
