Bangladesh vs England (1st T20I) – Highlights
England and Bangladesh met in the 1st match of the 3-match T20 series yesterday (March 9). Both teams entered the race with the confidence to stay ahead of the series. Batting first in that match, England could not advance very far in front of the Bangladeshi bowling attack. They set a target of fewer than 160 runs.
Later, chasing that target, Bangladesh reached the port of victory with 6 wickets in hand before the scheduled 20 overs ended. On the other hand, England had to leave the field with a loss. Along with this, Nazmul Hossain Shanto won the man of the match title due to his excellent batting.
The toss was in favour of Bangladesh at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. After winning the toss, Tiger captain Shakib Al Hasan invited England to bat. The visitors had a good start.
Opener Phil Salt and Jos Buttler scored 80 runs in the opening pair of 10 overs. Nasum Ahmed broke the pair. Salt got caught out (38 off 35 balls).
Then David Malan (4) was caught at long-on while hitting Shakib for a six. Buttler was still playing freely. He hit Hasan Mahmud for a six, making a 32-ball fifty, and then hit the next ball for another six.
Ben Duckett also started well. Mustafiz bowled this batter who made 20 from 13 balls with a great delivery. England was still in a good position. It was 135 runs for 3 wickets after 16 overs.
Then, with the first ball in the 17th over, Hasan Mahmud returned the menacing Jos Buttler. The English captain scored 67 runs off 42 balls while hitting 4 four-sixes. Bangladesh returned to the match after Butler’s return. In the end, England stopped at 156 for 6.
Hasan Mahmood took 2 wickets with 26 runs in 4 overs. Shakib gave 26 runs with the same amount of overs to take a wicket. Mustafiz got 1 wicket but spent 34 runs. Taskin took 1 wicket and Nasum Ahmed took 1 wicket for 31 runs.
The target of victory against Bangladesh was 157 runs. The Tigers beat England by 6 wickets with 2 overs in hand. In the three-match series, the home team now leads by 1-0.
The hosts made a great start. After being absent for eight years, Rony Talukder and the dashing Liton Das rejoined the team to impress the English bowlers. Rony and Liton scored 33 runs off 21 balls in the opening pair. Rony was bowled without understanding Adil Rashid’s googly. He used 14 balls to score 21 runs.
Liton, however, could not make the innings bigger. After 12 off 10 balls he was caught out at mid-on. Bangladesh lost 2 wickets for 43 runs. However, the Tigers used the power play to score 54 runs for 2 wickets in just 6 overs.
After that, the anointed Towhid Hridoy and Nazmul Hossain Shanto also batted well. They made a pair of 65 runs off 39 balls. Towhid Hridoy scored 24 runs off 17 balls with two fours and one six and was caught out by Moeen Ali. Then, Shanto got out just after the fifty. The left-hander was bowled by Mark Wood after making 51 runs off 30 balls with 8 boundaries.
But after that, Shakib and Afif Hossain left the field after winning the match. They made an unbroken pair of 46 runs off 34 balls for the fifth wicket. Unbeaten Afif scored 15 off 13 balls, while Shakib had 34 from 24 balls to remain unbeaten.
