London Spirit, chasing 136, managed 123/5 in their 100 balls. Phil Salt and Fazalhaq Farooqi pulled out all the stops at Lord’s, turning the cricket pitch into their personal playground as Manchester Originals broke their duck in The Hundred. Salt, named the Meerkat Match Hero, played a pivotal role by scoring 58 from 41 balls, setting a challenging target of 136 for the Spirit. Farooqi’s bowling performance, claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs in his 20 balls, was instrumental in defending the total.
The loss ended London Spirit’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages, leaving them at the bottom of the table alongside the also eliminated Manchester Originals. Farooqi’s early strikes, dismissing Michael Pepper for 9 and Ollie Pope for a duck, put the Originals in a commanding position.
The run out of Dan Lawrence, thanks to a direct hit from wicketkeeper Salt, further tilted the balance in favor of the Originals. Despite being dropped twice, Keaton Jennings tried to anchor the Spirit’s chase with an unbeaten 61 off 50 balls. However, his efforts, combined with Shimron Hetmyer’s 44 from 35 balls, fell short.
Their partnership of 96 runs from 74 balls kept the Spirit in the hunt, but Hetmyer’s dismissal, when he lofted Scott Currie’s delivery to Salt, was a turning point. With 28 runs needed off the final 12 balls, Andre Russell’s arrival at the crease promised a late surge. However, his quick departure, caught by Wayne Madsen off Farooqi, sealed the game for the Originals.
Despite some sloppy fielding and missed chances, the Originals managed to hold on, as the Spirit were left with an insurmountable task in the closing moments of the match.
