Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 runs in a thrilling match at the Eden Gardens on Saturday (March 23) night. KKR lost 7 wickets and scored 208 runs in the scheduled 20 overs. In response, SRH put up 204 runs on the board by losing 7 wickets in 20 overs.

However, in the last ball of the second over, Sunil Narine was run out with only 2 runs. T Natarajan got the wicket of Venkatesh Iyer (7) in the 4th over of the innings. Natarajan dismissed captain Shreyas Iyer on the fifth ball of the same over before opening the run book.
KKR’s run rate slowed down a bit due to a quick loss of wickets. Mayank Markande also dismissed Nitish Rana (9) in the third ball of the eighth over. But then KKR turned around with the bat of Salt and Ramandeep Singh. The pair added 54 runs off just 28 balls on the Knight Riders scoreboard.
Ramandeep became a victim of Cummins for the team’s 105 runs. He scored 35 runs off 17 balls with 1 four and 4 sixes before getting out. In the next over, Markande dismissed Salt, who scored a half-century. He made 54 runs off 40 balls, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes.
Despite losing two set batters, KKR’s run rate did not slow down. Russell and Rinku Singh raised a storm for the team. They added 81 runs to the scoreboard in just 32 balls. Rinku was dismissed for 23 runs off 15 balls. But Russell was a little more upbeat that day. He put immense pressure on the bowlers of Sunrisers smashing fours and sixes. In the end, he slashed 64 runs off just 25 balls, hitting 3 fours and 7 sixes. Mitchell Starc remained unbeaten with 6 runs off 3 balls.
For Sunrisers, T Natarajan took the highest number of 3 wickets with 32 runs in 4 overs. Markande took 2 wickets with 39 runs in the same over. Besides, skipper Cummins took 1 wicket with 32 runs in 4 overs.
Chasing a huge target of 209 runs, Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma scored 60 runs in just 5.3 overs. Harshit broke this pair. He set back Mayank to the dugout who scored 32 runs off 21 balls. After an over, Abhishek also returned to the dressing room. He became Russell’s victim by scoring 32 runs off 19 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Sunrisers, who scored runs at a run rate of over 10, could not accelerate with the pair of Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram. As a result, the pressure was increasing for the team. Markram became the victim of Varun Chakaravarthy after the team scored 107 runs. He scored 18 runs off 13 balls. In the next over, Narine sent back Tripathi who scored 20 runs off 20 balls.
Heinrich Klaasen fought alone in the next fight. Abdul Samad scored 15 off 11 balls and Shahbaz Ahmed made 16 off 5 as partners.
Sunrisers needed 13 runs from the last over to win. Klaasen reduced the gap with a six off the first ball of Harshit’s over. He gave Shahbaz a chance with a single on the next ball. SRH needed 6 runs from the last three balls to win when Shahbaz was caught at long-on in the third ball of the over.
The new batter Marco Jansen took a single to bring back Klaasen on strike. On the fourth ball, Suyash Sharma took the catch of Klassen at short third. As a result, the target was 5 runs to win the last ball. The new batsman Cummins failed to connect the last ball with the bat. As a result, KKR left the field with an incredible victory of 4 runs.
Knight Riders’ best bowler Harshit took 3 wickets with 33 runs in 4 overs. Russell picked up 2 wickets with 25 runs in 2 overs. Besides, Varun and Narine scalped one wicket each.
