Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians (Match 05) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss Cricket Highlights of IPL 2024 for March 25  Match 05 for Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians. GT has made a good start by overpowering MI. Gujarat Titans (GT) has made a good start in IPL 2024 by overpowering Mumbai Indians (MI). Shubman Gill led GT won by 6 runs after collapsing MI’s batting at the end.

Gujarat Titans lost the toss and collected 168 runs for 6 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday as their opponents sent them to bat. In response, the innings of Mumbai Indians came to a halt after getting 162 runs after losing 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 169 runs set by Gujarat Titans, MI lost 2 wickets in 12 overs and scored 107 runs. Then the incredible downfall of the team commenced. Despite having the advantage of batting later on a dewy field, MI could not win the match crossing the line with the equation of 62 runs by 8 wickets in 8 overs and then 43 runs by 7 wickets in 5 overs.

One of the most successful teams in IPL history lost by 6 runs in the death overs due to the great bowling of the GT bowlers. Mumbai has made an art of starting the IPL season with a defeat, they lost the consecutive 12th instance with this. The world’s richest cricket franchise last won their first match in the tournament in 2012, against Chennai Super Kings.

GT won the first match under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill. And Hardik Pandya, who left GT and returned to his old address Mumbai Indians this season, failed to change the team’s fortunes despite getting the captaincy.

In this year’s IPL, the teams playing at their ground have won all five matches. Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won at home just before Gujarat Titans (GT).

Pandya won the toss and sent GT to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Pandya also bowled the first over of the match. He conceded 11 runs in that over. The two openers Shubman and Wriddhiman Saha both hit boundaries to hint at a great start for GT. But they couldn’t build a mountain of runs due to the excellent bowling of Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee.

GT, who won the title in their debut season in 2022, kept losing wickets regularly. Still, the team reached 168 runs thanks to the responsible batting of Sai Sudharsan (45 runs from 39 balls) and a late cameo innings from Rahul Tewatia (22 runs from 15 balls).

MI didn’t get off to a good start going down to chase the target. Ishan Kishan got out before adding a run to the scoreboard. Then the anointed Naman Dhir returned to the pavilion with 20 runs off 10 balls with a hint of storm. Both Kishan and Naman were guided to the dressing room by Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai.

However, experienced Rohit Sharma handled the initial shock well with ‘Baby AB’ fame Dewald Brevis. MI was on the way to victory with Rohit and Brevis’ 77-run partnership for the third wicket.

However, Sai Kishore initiated the collapse after breaking the pair by dismissing Rohit in the 13th over. Rashid Khan bowled tight from one side. Besides Mohit Sharma, Spencer Johnson, and Umesh Yadav picked up wickets to cruise towards triumph. In their well-planned death bowling, Tilak Varma, Tim David, and Pandya were caught by the fielders. With this, the dream of securing a victory in their first match of the season remains elusive for MI.
