4 Milestones You Might’ve Missed in KKR’s Nail-Biting 14-Run Win Over DC

Match 48 of IPL 2025 had it all—a proper game of T20 with big hitters, big wickets, crazy comebacks, and a finish that kept fans (and commentators too) on the edge of their seats. But it wasn’t just the win that had cricket fans buzzing. There were plenty of individual milestones and team milestones that had fans abuzz (many going unnoticed in what was a 400+ run thriller). Here are four things you may not have picked up on whilst watching this match unfold live.

Varun Chakaravarthy Spins His Way to 150 T20 Wickets and Beyond

Varun Chakaravarthy, a mystery spinner, inflicted himself on the T20 records on a day when bowlers were under siege from ball one. Chakaravarthy collected two crucial wickets in his four overs for 39 runs, which was not bad for DC chasing down 205 runs, but this was not just another day at the office for him.

Chakaravarthy’s first wicket in the match came in the 18th over when Ashutosh Sharma got out, which took him to the 150 T20 wickets milestone, and to just finish off, got Mitchell Starc out to end off the 18th over, which took him to 151. Chakaravarth, having had a hit-and-miss season, this monumental milestone shows how much of a game-changer he could be at his best.

Andre Russell Turns 37 and Smashes His 600th Four

What better way to ring in your 37th birthday than accomplishing another milestone? Andre Russell, Mr. Mighty Finishes, delivered icing on the cake with his brief yet explosive cameo, while accomplishing his 600th four in T20 cricket. He finished up with 17 off 9, including two fours and a six.

Yes, he was run out (kudos to Abhishek Porel for one of the great run outs), that milestone was well in the bank. Russell now has 601 fours and 738 sixes (yes, 738!) from 548 T20 matches. While he has not had an electrifying performance all season, reminders like these are why great ones should never be counted out.

KKR Posts 200+ Without a Single Half-Century—Again

Thank you for reading the above stat, which is as unique as it is fascinating. KKR chased down 204/9 vs. DC, yet not one player scored a fifty (Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s top score was 44). While there were no big runs individually, everyone in the top and middle order contributed, and together they amassed yet another number on the scoreboard.

KKR have done this for the second time in IPL history – the first was in 2019 when KKR chased down 205 against RCB without a 50 from anyone – so it demonstrates the depth of the KKR side, and how they batted selflessly throughout the innings. In a format of the game that we normally associate with individual success and personal milestones, this was refreshing to see.

Faf du Plessis Becomes the Third-Oldest IPL Player to Hit a Fifty

Faf du Plessis was the only one to pick up a recent injury, but today he showed everyone that he is still a threat. At 40 years and 290 days old, the South African veteran classily slapped 62 runs off the bat in 45 balls, taking the Capitals into the game when it seemed they could not find a way to come back.

This half-century made Faf the third-oldest player to score an IPL fifty in the history of the IPL. Faf also prioritized timing over strength and placement over panic in what he did in his innings; we could all see that he knew what he was doing with the bat. Although the Capitals could not get over the line, Faf’s innings were the high point of what was a complete mess of a season for DC.
