CAN vs CAY (1st Semi Final) – Highlights

In the first semi-final of the North America T20 Cup held in George Town on April 26, 2025, Canada delivered a commanding performance to secure a 10-wicket victory over the Cayman Islands. After restricting the Cayman Islands to 122 for 8, thanks to a brilliant bowling display led by Kaleem Sana, who took 4 wickets for 27 runs, Canada easily chased the target. Their openers made light work of the run chase, reaching 125 without loss in just 13.3 overs, leaving 39 balls to spare. Kaleem Sana rightfully earned the Player of the Match award for his brilliant bowling display, laying the foundation for Canada’s commanding victory.

Despite a strong start from Jermaine Baker, who smashed 27 off 17 balls, and a steady 47 from Ramon Sealy, the rest of the batting lineup faltered. Jaskaran Singh did early damage with three quick strikes, while Kaleem Sana wreaked havoc in the middle and death overs, claiming four wickets for just 27 runs. After the dismissals of Rickel Walker (33 off 43 balls) and Sealy, the Cayman Islands lost momentum, managing only 122 with few contributions from the lower order. It was a disciplined bowling effort from Canada, setting up an easy chase.

Canada’s bowlers put on a clinical display to dismantle the Cayman Islands for 122 in the semi-final. Leading the charge was Kaleem Sana, who delivered a match-winning spell, taking 4 wickets for 27 runs in his 4 overs at an economy of 6.75. Jaskaran Singh supported brilliantly, picking up 3 wickets for 26 runs, maintaining tight control throughout his spell. At an outstanding economy rate of 4.25, Saad Bin Zafar claimed a vital wicket while allowing just 17 runs. While Sukhjinder Singh, Harsh Thaker, and Shivam Sharma went wicketless, they bowled tidy spells to keep the pressure firmly on the Cayman Islands, ensuring no easy runs were given away.

Canada’s chase was nothing short of dominant as openers Ali Nadeem and captain Navneet Dhaliwal made light work of the 123-run target. Nadeem played a composed innings, scoring an unbeaten 55 off 39 balls with 8 fours and a six, while Dhaliwal was at his explosive best, hammering 70 not out off just 42 deliveries, including 8 fours and 3 sixes. The pair finished the job in just 13.3 overs without losing a wicket, powering Canada to 125/0 at a brisk run rate of 9.25 and sealing a commanding 10-wicket win to book their place in the final.

The Cayman Islands’ bowling attack had no answers against Canada’s dominant openers, as they went wicketless while conceding runs at a high rate. Romario Edwards was the most expensive, leaking 22 runs in just one over, while Romeo Dunka and Conroy Wright also struggled, both conceding at 10 runs per over. Adrian Wright bowled the most overs (3.3) but gave away 28 runs without success. Alistair Ifill was the most economical of the lot with 3 overs for 21 runs, but even he couldn’t apply any real pressure. Jahmeal Buchanan also went wicketless, finishing with 24 runs conceded in his 3 overs.
