LQ vs MS (Match – 16) – Highlights

Lahore Qalandars secured their third win of the tournament, overpowering Multan Sultans by five wickets in a thrilling encounter at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on Saturday night. With this victory, Qalandars have climbed to second place on the points table, just behind the table leaders, Islamabad United.

The Sultans, on the other hand, suffered their fifth defeat in PSL, with Qalandars chasing down the 186-run target in 19 overs. A key turning point in the chase was a brilliant 41-ball 89-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Sikandar Raza for the fifth wicket, which propelled Qalandars toward the target.

In their pursuit of the target, Qalandars faced an early setback when opening batter Mohammad Naeem was dismissed in the second over, with Josh Little taking the first wicket for the Sultans. Fakhar Zaman briefly raised hopes with a quickfire 28 off 22 balls, smashing three fours and two sixes, but was dismissed by Mohammad Hasnain with Qalandars at 45 for 2 in the sixth over.

Abdullah Shafique and Daryl Mitchell took control, steadying the chase with a solid 49-run partnership off 31 balls. Shafique was dismissed for 34 off 25 balls, including two fours and two sixes, by Ubaid Shah. LQ were at 95-4 in 11.5 overs when Ubaid took the vital wicket of Sam Billings with the very next ball. Billings was removed for a duck off just three balls.

Sikandar Raza partnered with Mitchell in the middle as the needed run rate increased, and the two of them attacked the Sultans’ bowlers nonstop. The pair kept LQ in the chase by scoring 14, 11, and 18 runs off the 13th, 14th, and 15th overs, respectively. Mitchell reached his 2nd half-century of the season off 32 balls with a spectacular 64-run knock that contained four boundaries and four sixes. Raza, who was instrumental in leading Qalandars to victory, scored a scorching 40 not out off 21 balls, including the game-winning shot and two fours, and four sixes.

For Multan Sultans, Ubaid Shah was the most successful bowler, picking up two wickets, while Josh Little, Mohammad Hasnain, and Akif Javed each claimed one wicket. Despite their best efforts, the Sultans could not defend their total.

previously, middle-order batsman Kamran Ghulam and captain Muhammad Rizwan both scored undefeated half-centuries to help the Multan Sultans to a respectable total in their batting innings. The Sultans’ opening batsmen had a respectable 30-run opening partnership, but Haris Rauf’s dismissal of Yasir Khan for 24 in the fifth over was the turning point. In the eleventh over, Sultans were at 70-3 after Usman Khan left for 18 and Shai Hope left for 9.

From there, Rizwan and Kamran Ghulam took charge, smashing a rapid 115 runs off the next 59 balls. Rizwan, the tournament’s leading run-scorer, remained unbeaten on 76 from 48 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Kamran was the aggressor, scoring a quickfire 52* off 31 balls, with four sixes and two fours, ensuring that the Sultans finished their innings on a strong note at 185/7.

For Lahore, Tom Curran, Haris Rauf, and Daryl Mitchell each took a wicket, but it was the Qalandars’ batting depth that saw them through to a well-earned victory.
